Our Work With BAME Families
“We run a number of programmes with BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) Families at the Whiterock Child and Family Centre.”
English Language Classes
We have weekly English language classes for adults- with an experienced tutor.
This includes a conversation and beginners’ class – where people can build new friendships, build confidence, and develop a wide range of transferable skills that can be used in everyday life.
Friendship Club
This Friendship club was set up to encourage the integration and creation of friendships from newcomer women alongside, women in the Upper Springfield/ Whiterock area.
They cook together in an informal and welcoming setting, each week one member picked the recipe, and everyone helped to cook the dish/dishes- this group has helped many of the women who participate to:
build confidence and self-esteem.
develop new skills.
learn English in an informal way.
work together to create dishes.
Coming together on a weekly basis to shop, plan, cook, create, and educate!
We love a Thursday, just to taste the delicious food! It is a great opportunity to socialise with this building being filled with chatter, laughter and delicious smells from our kitchen that make everyone’s stomachs rumble!
